1. Applications must be 100% complete, using as much detail as possible. Incomplete applications will be discarded and applications that do not provide thorough, thoughtful answers will likely end up being rejected.
2. Applicants must live in Michigan or within 50 miles of the Michigan border. We DO NOT ship birds and do not allow them to be transported great distances.
3. In order to adopt any bird larger than a Love Bird, you must have prior experience with like-sized birds or be able to demonstrate an extensive understanding of the type of bird you're interested in.
4. You must be at least 21 years of age. Some exceptions may be made, but those will be decided on a case by case basis.
5. If you do not have an Avian certified veterinarian in your immediate area, you must have a vet that has experience caring for the basic needs of parrots and know which Avian vet you will use in the event that your parrot needs specialized care. In other words, we do not expect you to drive several hours for basic care like nail trimming and wing clipping, but we do require that you have access to an Avian specialist if your bird becomes ill. **If you already have pet parrots, you must show that you have a working relationship with a vet.
6. You must demonstrate at least a basic understanding of the needs of the species of parrot that you would like to adopt. This begins by answering adoption application questions thoroughly.
7. We do not place medium to large parrots (i.e. Amazons, African Greys, Cockatoos, Macaws) with families who live in apartment complexes. Close proximity to neighbors can cause significant issues when these parrots call or make other normal, loud noises.
8. If your home has a water softener, you must commit to another source of water for your parrot.
9. We do not place parrots in potential breeding situations. If you are looking for a companion for your parrot, we can suggest another species that might be a good match or help you consider other options. We will not place a parrot of the opposite sex to be a companion for your bird.
10. We do not place parrots in homes that have adopted another pet within the last 6 months to a year (**depending on the type of pet).
11. You must demonstrate that you have adequate time in your daily schedule to care for your bird. Parrots require a minimum of 3 to 4 hours of attention/interaction/out-of-cage playtime with their caregivers each day.
12. You must agree to and sign our Adoption Contract.
